Ms. Rowe

Science Teacher

Lisa arrived at SAEL in March 2023 at the tail end of a very snowy Spring Semester. She is thrilled to teach Science at an EL Education school where her many interests in music and poetry to psychology and ecology can be woven into the fabric of developing lifelong learners. As a teacher, Lisa combines her knowledge and passions from her undergraduate studies at CSU Fresno with her B.A. from Prescott College. While at Prescott, Lisa had the opportunity to personally experience what it means to be a student in an experiential, self-directed, and multidisciplinary school. She thinks EL Education is the absolute BEST method of learning. (And loves fieldwork!!) Lisa has 15 years of working experience as a Special Education and Science Teacher across multiple schools and with various ages of students in Nevada County. Her overall goal as a teacher is to empower each student to see and value their individual gifts and how they can each find their best journey through this beautiful world.

Though originally from New Zealand, Lisa has called Nevada County home for over 20 years and spends most of her free time backpacking in the Sierra Nevada. In the words of Rita Hoskins, "California is my country, Cali for nee i ay." Lisa is a parent of a SAEL 2021 graduate, she knows and appreciates the impact of the dedicated SAEL staff and is thrilled to join the Crew.
