Shannon is excited to be a part of the SAEL community as an Adventure/PE and elective teacher and brings a variety of experience in education and the field. Shannon's love for the outdoors and learning began at a young age exploring the wetlands around Houston, TX. She loved learning all about the animals she encountered, namely frogs and lizards. Her passion for animals and learning led her to pursue a B.S. at The Ohio State University in Evolution and Ecology. While at OSU, she rekindled her love for reptiles and amphibians and with the push of an incredible instructor, helped study unisexual salamanders.

After graduating, Shannon followed the salamanders to one of the United States's best hotspots for amphibian biodiversity in Humboldt County. She fell in love with education while working as a Teaching Associate for Introductory Zoology at Humboldt State University, redirecting her path into the classroom and away from the field. After two AmeriCorps terms at South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) working in outreach and education, Shannon is happy to be able to combine her love of adventure and learning at SAEL. She looks forward to encouraging students' passions with enthusiasm and fostering a love of learning in her students.

Off campus, Shannon can be found wildlife watching, attempting to fish out of her kayak, trying out new recipes, or laughing at bad movies.
